Pond to plate

Grown in water. Picked by hand.

Singhara is the fruit of a plant that floats on Bihar's ponds. Here's how it gets from the water to your kitchen.

Told in Madhubani, the folk painting of Mithila, the same wetlands our singhara comes from.

Bihar's wetlands 01

Grown on Bihar's ponds

Singhara floats on shallow ponds and wetlands. Bihar grows over 40% of India's crop, and we work directly with 200+ farmer families there.

Harvest season 02

Harvested by hand

Farmers wade into the water to pick each nut, then bring the harvest to shore in baskets. Buying direct means fair prices for them and fresher singhara for you.

Our facility 03

Cleaned and milled

In our certified facility the nuts are washed, machine-dehulled and milled into fine, grit-free flour, without the dirt and mould that open-market flour can carry.

Why singhara

An old staple, rediscovered.

A fruit of the water

Not a grain. Not from a field.

Singhara (water chestnut) grows on ponds, not in fields. That's why its flour is naturally gluten-free, and why it has been a fasting staple in Indian homes for generations.

Gluten free, maida free

Our atta is 100% water chestnut. Our pasta and vermicelli are made with singhara, makhana, cassava and psyllium, with no wheat and no maida.

What is singhara?

Singhara, also called water chestnut (Trapa natans), is the fruit of an aquatic plant that grows in ponds and wetlands. In India it is eaten fresh in season, dried whole, or milled into singhara atta (water chestnut flour).

Is singhara atta gluten-free?

Yes. Singhara is a fruit, not a grain, so pure singhara atta contains no gluten. MantraAQ Singhara Atta is 100% water chestnut flour, and our pasta and vermicelli are made with singhara, makhana (fox nut), cassava and psyllium, with no wheat or maida.

Can I eat singhara atta during Navratri or a vrat fast?

Yes. Singhara atta is a traditional vrat food used for rotis, puris, pakoras and halwa during Navratri, Ekadashi and Shivratri fasts. If your family follows specific fasting rules, check them against the ingredients on the pack.

How do I make soft rotis with singhara atta?

Singhara atta has no gluten, so it doesn't stretch like wheat dough. Knead it with warm water and a little mashed boiled potato to help it bind, roll it slightly thick between two sheets, and cook it on a medium-hot tawa.

How long does delivery take?

Orders are dispatched within 1 to 2 business days. Delivery takes 3 to 7 business days to metro cities, 4 to 10 days to other cities and 5 to 14 days to remote areas. Shipping is free on orders above ₹499 and ₹49 below that.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Tell us within 48 hours of delivery with your order ID and photos at hello@mantraaq.com or on WhatsApp at +91 82838 16755. We'll send a replacement or a full refund. Opened or consumed food can't be returned for hygiene reasons.

How should I store singhara atta?

Unopened, nitrogen-flushed packs stay fresh for 9 months from manufacture. Once opened, move the contents to a clean airtight container, keep it somewhere cool and dry, and use it within 30 days.
